Sports
European Football (Soccer)
Not only does Barcelona have a world-famous club in FC Barcelona (Barca) but they have one of the world's most celebrated players, the Brazilian Ronaldinho (Ronaldo de Assis Moreira). The club plays at Camp Nou stadium.
FC Barcelona began as a football club only but has grown and become an umbrella organization, sporting not only a football club but a basketball team, plus championship teams in both handball and roller hockey.
Auto Racing
Auto Racing is a popular sport in Spain with major races held through much of the year. Each year since 1991 the Circuit de Catalunya in the greater Barcelona area has been the host of the F-1 Spanish Grand Prix in May. The much-praised facility has enough seating to accommodate over 65,000 spectators including special easy-access areas for the disabled or those needing assistance.
Sailing
Get to the shore in the warmer months and you can enjoy watching the sailing regattas sponsored by Barcelona's sailing clubs.
Tennis
The Open SEAT Godo, a men's professional outdoor clay tournament, is held each April. This ATP event takes place at Spain's oldest tennis club, the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona where the streets Bosch i Gimpera and Marques de Mulhacen meet.
Running
Barcelona hosts its own marathon in each March. The race is open to any athlete from around the world who's at least 18 years old. Wheelchair athletes are also welcome. The marathon has a six-hour time limit. Concurrent with the marathon is a shorter 13 to 14K run called the Marina Run.
Bullfighting
The Spanish animal rights group Asociación Defensa Derechos Animal (ADDA) and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) are pushing to have bullfighting banned from Barcelona's region of Spain called Catalonia. The Barcelona city counsel has already voted to make Barcelona an anti-bullfight city but the body does not have the authority to ban the sport. That authority lies with one of Spain's regional governments, in this case the Catalan Parliament. Parliament has already passed legislation prohibiting admittance to bullfights to spectators younger than 14. The prevailing opinion is that bullfighting in Barcelona will soon be limited to history books.
Golf
If you can't go on vacation without playing golf, Barcelona has a few golf clubs that allow non-members to play. Verify ahead of time what equipment the club has available for non-members because some will not have rental golf clubs.
